Belstaff Waxed Jacket / Lashes of London Sequin Tee * / Topshop Coated Jeans / Topshop Boutique Boots / Balenciaga City
As part of this years resolutions I’ve been forcing myself to step outside of my sartorial comfort zone. So far I’ve discovered I have a bit of a soft spot for sequins, metallics are blacks best friend & I’ve even been tempted by that orange dress. Obviously, I’m not about to abandon black for good, but it’s nice to mix things up a little sometimes & try things you’d usually dismiss.
This mermaid green sequined tee from Lashes of London was one of those things, beautiful but not for me. That was until I saw how effortlessly Annette paired a similar sequined miniskirt with her mostly monochrome wardrobe, it worked so beautifully against all of the black & suddenly I found myself longing for mermaid sequins too. When it arrived I was pretty surprised by how easy it is to wear, the iridescent purpleish-green sequins make it, like other metallics, almost a neutral. I don’t feel like I’m wearing something bright green, it just feels like another dark layer, and that’s perfect for me.
I know this is also possibly the most cliché way to style sequins for day time, but why mess with a good thing? I just love the crinkly texture & dull sheen of my Belstaff against all the glitz too. It was a total impulse buy, but one I can’t imagine being without now, I can throw it on over anything & it instantly adds that perfect tough, laidback kind of edge, perfect for roughing up sequins!
