I’m sure I’m not the only girl to find bikini shopping the biggest nightmare, like finding the perfect pair of jeans, it can take weeks of searching & endless disappointments all to find the one. Beach Cafe kindly sent me a little package of black swimwear last week to try out & hopefully finally find that elusive perfect one.
I’m usually a bikini kinda girl, but the Thapelo one piece caught my eye as soon as I saw it. The sash across the top can be worn tied around the bust as a bandeau or across the shoulder as an asymmetric strap (like here). It’s a nice twist on a classic shape & I felt I’d have to style it a little bit 50s to play up it’s modern/retro look – with kitten eye sunglasses & a black chiffon headscarf. This would have been my pick if it wasn’t for my annoyingly long torso making it just a bit too short in the body for me. I loved that such a simple detail, tying the sash differently, can give it completely different look.
L★Space’s frilly, laser cut bikini was another one I really loved, it’s just so fun & the triangle ruffle gives it an optical slimming effect to the waist too. This one proves that black swimwear doesn’t have to mean plain & boring, and it’s the type of bikini I’d pack for a girls holiday to Ibiza or somewhere similar, paired with huge cat eyes & an armful of bracelets.
Those who follow me on Instagram will know already that fell in love with & ended up choosing the Seafolly Grecian style bikini, calling it my ‘bikini soul mate’. The twisted, wrapped strips of fabric are such a beautiful detail & it’s the only bikini that has ever made me look like I actually have boobs, thanks to it’s ingenious structure, padding & boning. Despite all of this going on underneath, it is super comfortable & the boning helps it to stay up & avoid embarrassing slips too. Always a good thing if you ask me, I’ve had enough unfortunate incidents with bikinis to last a lifetime! It’s simple, but with a twist & is a far cry from my usual plain, boring black triangle bikinis.

YUM, I do love good swimwear. So glad you picked the Seafolly one, it’s my favourite too! That style is such a classic and their bikinis always fit so well. Saying that, l do have a weakness for L*Space…. ;) xo

Hehe! Agree, I was soo tempted by the LSpace one, but decided the Seafolly was more ‘me’ ;)

I love the one piece it has that 70’s vibe but because it is black it transcends time lovely! I usually get my bikinis at American Apparel I am trying to get out of that habit and find new designers, cuts and fits xx

I’m so annoyed it didn’t fit me properly, it would definitely have been my choice if it did! I used to get most of mine from AA too, I always stuck to plain triangle ones as I knew they suited me & never really bothered to try any other styles. I’m definitely going to be on the look out for a one piece after trying this one though, it surprised me how much I liked it!

Definitely love the seafolly goddess option!!! unfortunately I haven’t been swimming in ages because shopping for a swimming costume is such a nightmare. oiii.

Tell me about it! It such a minefield! Trying them on at home though makes it slightly less horrible though, I think!

Ahhh the annual bikini search, a thin line between love and hate with this one haha! Love your suggestions though, I really like how you’ve made a shopping post your own by shooting it yourself. I think the Seafolly is my personal fave xx
FAIIINT says
Yeah, exactly the same here! Love shopping for them, hate trying them on & then being horrified! Hah! ;)
And thanks, we had a lot of fun shooting it as it’s a little different to the usual posts :)

I’m so with you there! I love swimwear but am so picky it shopping always turns into the biggest struggle! These are all gorgeous though!

I love how these have been photographed! Fab choice, sounds like it’s really well made as well. Love those kitten eye sunnies too! xxx

These are gorgeous picks! I’m right with you though, shopping for a good suit is the worst part. It’s a relief to find one well made and flattering!
FAIIINT says
Yes, totally with you there. I think it’s one of those things that’s really daunting even for those that are really happy with their bodies. It always amazes me how unflattering 2 pieces of fabric can be sometimes! Hah!

Oh I’m liking the L*Space and Seafoly pieces. I don’t find it too hard, I actually become obsessive with swimwear and will buy anything – so long as there is straps! I hate bandeau’s, they look awful on my broad shoulders so that’s the only deal breaker for me. As for actually wearing them, that’s an entirely different story LOL

I hate strapless too! But more because of the embarrassing slip issue! Too many times that has happened to me! Hah! But I do like when bikinis have a removable strap & still stay in place, to avoid awkward tan lines if you’re sitting by the pool .etc

Your swimwear looks amazing! Black, which other color could it be? Love the fact that you stay true to yourself. :)
